Let me just state that I now have a hateful relationship with the treadmill. When I was getting ready for the 5k, the treadmill was great. You didn't run that long on it and it was rather comfortable. I have now discovered that running any length over 3.5 miles on the treadmill just plain stinks! It becomes tedious and the view in the gym isn't the most appealing. So now I am taking it to the streets. To be honest, I actually run better outside.

On another note, training for the 5k was much easier than this (duh). I have talked to some people and read about this "block" that can happen in training. It is this literal point in your run where you seem to have difficulty in pushing yourself to go further after a certain mileage. This has been the battle with me the past few weeks. My strategy is making sure I get the distance in no matter what. If I feel that I need to slow down to a fast walk to gain some composure back a few times...I will. I never let myself go more than 30 seconds...but that 30 seconds of time helps my body get back on track. This has been helping me mentally and physically to just get my body used to going further than normal. Pace and agility will come and I still have time to get this thing locked in.

On a cool note...my yoga/pilates instructor thinks I should become certified to teach. Whoa! Don't know if I feel comfortable enough to teach at this point but it is still very cool to think how much I have improved!Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-68360216447436531342009-03-29T16:30:00.000-07:002009-03-29T16:48:16.148-07:00I did it!!I ran my first 5k in 33 minutes and 26 seconds. I will say it was not my personal best and I was a bit disappointed in my time. I really wanted less than 30 minutes. I had misjudged the course and the amount of time running on an incline/hill (stupid campus) which made it much more difficult. I also got a horrible side stitch (those horrible cramps you get under your right side of your ribs due to your diaphragm practically shutting down...at least that is what it feels like). Halfway into the race I had to slow down to a fast walk so I could regain breathing and pinch my side/ribs to cut it off. I probably walked a good 30 seconds but once I started up again it slowly came back. Again, I slowed down to a fast pace walk doing the same routine for around 30 seconds and it finally worked. Once I saw Neyland Stadium, I picked up my pace and proudly ran onto the finish line which was actually the 50 yard line!! It was very cool to be on the field.

My sweet hubby was there to take me on a very COLD Sunday at 6:30 in the morning. There were over 5,000 participants for the marathon/half/5k. There was also a race for kids which was really sweet. I am proud that I finally did something challenging and new. It was inspiring to be around so many incredible runners. Seriously. There were some SERIOUS runners that could smoke you in a second. Regardless, I did my small 5k and now I want to do more. I am gonna start pushing my distance to do a 10k in May. I know I can do it.

And maybe a half at the end of the year in Memphis...but that is just rumbling around in my head right now. One thing at a time...Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-2719845054023522262009-03-27T05:52:00.000-07:002009-03-28T05:38:52.392-07:00a little dramatic moment...Less than two days...let the dramatic Paige struggling/running footage begin to this!!Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-61755549426660998252009-03-22T16:21:00.000-07:002009-03-22T16:25:10.584-07:004 minutes to save the world...Not exactly...but I did run a pace of a 9 minute mile.! I got the Nike+Ipod thingy and I LOVE IT!! I was running faster than I originally thought and went further! Woo!! Less than a week!! I'm looking into more running opportunities...a10k is very possible...and maybe a half marathon? I don't know..but I am excited about my improvement!Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-55601892127468283002009-03-19T06:03:00.000-07:002009-03-19T06:23:50.335-07:00Run Paige Run!10 days from now I will be running my first 5k...I officially registered 5 minutes ago. I just came in from my morning run in my neighborhood. I ran 3 miles nonstop in exactly 30 minutes...not shabby I must say! I am pretty stoked since this was my first attempt to run in my neighborhood in quite some time. The weather has been sketchy the past two weeks so I have just been running at the gym. My neighborhood is absolutely perfect for training. It varies from flat to inclines in the distance so it keeps my body guessing. I am excited!!

Also, our 1 year anniversary is coming up on April 5!!! WOOHOO!! We are going to Charleston for a couple of days in the middle of April to celebrate. I am personally very excited since I have never been and have only heard raving reviews. Andy has always said it was a city that just seemed like me. We will see! It just seems like a very dreamy town with great history, food, activities and shopping! We are looking into going on a ghost tour. I've been told they can be pretty interesting with the history...but me...ghosts...never really a great match.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-12898115143699960022009-03-05T16:37:00.000-08:002009-03-05T16:54:56.676-08:00She's going the distance...she's going for speed...At the end of January, I came across a new class at my gym...and I got hooked. It is a running class and it is absolutely fabulous. I know it doesn't sound much fun but it will push you in a way that I never knew existed. Some of you may recall that last summer I wanted to do a 5k. That failed since I started to have knee problems due to my right hip shifting a couple of years ago (Gentry...no jokes on my height). I was disappointed but knew it was not worth blowing my knee out with all the running.

This class has helped me so much that my instructor told me I should enter a race since I have improved so much in the past month...so I have decided that I am doing my first 5k on March 29th. My knee has not given me ANY trouble (thanks to some awesome and expensive Nikes, research for proper form, and a knee strap to support my leg).

I am proud to say my distance/time as of yesterday is 3.1 miles in 31 minutes. I am running 4-5 times a week and always add in yoga, pilates or weight lifting after my run. I can't believe the difference in my body in just a few weeks. My energy has improved and the muscle definition is starting to show (my sweet hubby was quite impressed in the definition in just my back and tummy). Just a couple of more weeks...Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-26682128883269426092009-01-18T14:25:00.000-08:002009-01-18T14:54:24.383-08:00Team Hoyt
The past couple of months have been hard on me for personal reasons. Some things are known to others while some are not. I am aware of the blessings that I have been given but sometimes your heart will just break. I find that I am becoming more internal than I used to be and I haven't quite decided if that is a good thing. Maybe.

When your heart is breaking and your spirit is a bit broken, God always seems to find a way to send you a message. A clear message of His presence and that He is with you. I don't find reasons to express what He was telling me. However, I would like to show a story that I had forgotten about for quite some time. When I was driving in my car...I passed a billboard. On the way home from work today...this same sign came across my way. It said more to me than its literal meaning. The story of Team Hoyt.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-64331352845053306872009-01-03T14:19:00.000-08:002009-01-03T14:20:34.351-08:00My boy is back...Yup. We all chipped in to help out this year and it meant more to me since I am the one who kindly asked if he would do it one last time for all of us...especially for my nephews who needed this memory. He had not put them up since 2004 because of health issues. Those of you who know me best can imagine I cried my eyes out seeing the lights and helping because it has always meant the world to me. He is one of the greatest men in the world in my opinion and I love him very much. I can't write anymore...I will start crying again...dang it!!

Sidenote: We have all laughed because in the segment he talks about his "Angina attacks" (a heart condition that causes sharp heart pains). You can use your imagination at how that can just sound so wrong...it made the crying a bit easier. It was a bit childish to laugh at but it was worth it. Bless his heart...literally.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-51646951741075214602008-12-17T07:47:00.001-08:002008-12-17T07:48:31.900-08:00White Christmas! What I am dreaming about this Christmas! A White Christmas!Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-5304374880235325762008-12-07T13:14:00.001-08:002008-12-07T13:15:36.202-08:00Blue ChristmasTo start my blog of favorite Christmas songs/videos...who can deny some Elvis...I thought this video was VERY clever...Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-54728287246965868452008-11-25T06:29:00.000-08:002008-11-25T06:32:23.328-08:00My sister...Growing up, my sister and I used to torture each other practically...my sister used play this song and music video to make me cry. However, though I do not agree with some of his proposed policies, I will continue to PRAY for him and our country for strength, protection, and guidance. I find his presidential election to be a very defining moment in history and completely respect and admire it.

The thing that does alarm me is the pressure that we now have not only on ourselves as a country but also the pressure from the world. This is going to be a trial like no other for our beloved nation and I do find that we are embarking on something that is beyond a catchy slogan. As a Christian that is constantly mocked and judged for my faith (even when joked about stereotypically from fellow bloggers) I will still plant my feet strong and firmly in my beliefs. Not in a way that shoves a faith down your throat, but in a way that I can only turn my cheek and pray for my sake and yours...so that we can coexist in a world that has proven to tear down many walls. The one thing that may comfort me more than some is my faith that God is in control of this world...and it may be dark at times...but light still shines.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37936194.post-47504232616387261532008-11-06T14:43:00.000-08:002008-11-06T14:47:26.818-08:00Sing with me now...Definitely in my Top 3 all time favorite Disney...I watched this movie over and over when I was little and I can still remember the words to every song. We went on a spur of the moment trip today and it was incredibly refreshing to be around such gorgeous scenery. The leaves are just amazing. While walking around I came across an individual that caught me off guard...and my laugh. See...I was born without the neurotransmitter that filters circumstances before laughter. What I mean is...I laugh at the most inappropriate things and the wrong times. IT'S NOT MY FAULT!! It makes me feel bad...but maybe I can explain this person.

You know that cell phone service commercial with the guy (or inner self) explaining why he can't come to the phone because he doesn't have enough bars to get his messages from his friends going to Paris and he has to spend the weekend with the emo/goth twins. One of the twins is dancing to horrible techno music with one of the ribbon wands while the other is holding the radio....ring a bell? Well, I love those commercials and that is my favorite one. Anywho, I RAN INTO THE DANCING TWIN!! Tight jeans, black hair, and ALL. It caught me off guard so fast and I couldn't help but burst out a laugh and a nano second after tried to cover it with a cough. Then I quickly scurried behind the cd rack to catch composure...but that commercial kept playing in my head. I don't think he noticed...but I feel bad. It's justified when it is a commercial, right??

Heads up: My Papaw is putting up his famous Christmas light display after 4 years...and I'm helping so I can learn the tricks of the trade!!Paigehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14909080910277919874noreply@blogger.com1
