Lasik

Can anyone please comment on the idea of lasik eye correction? I want personal stories, pros and cons, advice...really anything on this topic. I am thinking of being consulted about it due to my disgust of contact lenses and hate the dependency on glasses...please help!!

I've got two - my mom had it done a few years ago and LOVES it. She's had no problems since. My father-in-law's girlfriend had it done last year or the year before and LOVED it in the beginning, but now she has to wear glasses to read and she can't see at night very well, so now she HATES it. I've heard other people talk about it, and it sounds like it's a toss up.

I met an older woman at the bus station who had it done. She said it worked very well at first, but then she noticed something strange. At certain moments, when the light hit certain objects just right, she could see through them. She laughed this off as just a trick of the light at first. But the more it happened the less she could deny that something extraordinary was happening.

She began to test herself, having friends place random objects behind walls and things. Her accuracy improved and before long she was able to control it perfectly. She loved the convenience this provided her.

Imagine: being able to scan a bathroom for empty stalls before entering, or being able to find your lost car keys under a pile of dirty clothes. She was tempted to use her new-found gift for more...voyeuristic endeavors.

There was a regular customer at her work that she suspected might have a crush on her. So one day she hid from his view when he arrived. And when she casually walked into the room she was able to see - with those spectacular eyes - his heart begin to beat faster when she caught his gaze. This emboldened her, and she convinced him to take her out on a date. The relationship grew serious and they were married a year later. This was, she told me, the greatest gift that her new ability provided her.

But things did not always go so smoothly. There were times - when she was very tired, or having a particularly bad period - that she could not control her power. She would find herself in the middle of rush hour traffic, surrounded by naked motorists in transparent vehicles. Or she would be making love to her husband and, overcome with emotion, was suddenly embracing a skeleton.

She told me plenty more, but I don't want to take up any more space than I already have. I have to say I was completely astonished by her story. The chances of this happening are probably infinitesimal, but perhaps it will have some impact on your final decision. Hope this helps!
